Play | Go Outside And Play!
This week my seventh grade science team celebrated Earth Day by planting trees, vegetables, herbs, and flowers in our school’s garden. We used the day to get our students out of the classroom and into the sunshine and fresh air, and to also educate them on actions that are happening that harm the environment and some counter actions they can perform to help protect the environment. To my surprise, in the 10 to 15 minutes we were in the garden, I found myself getting irritated

Pedicures| Are Your Feet Ready for Spring?
The build-up of thick, dry skin can be uncomfortable and even painful. If the callused skin is left untreated, it can crack, and the cracking can lead to bleeding, which can lead to an infection. Blooming Impressions’ professional advisors can teach you how to properly care for the skin on your hands and feet, along with the proper care for your fingernails and toenails. Trust me when I tell you, your hands and feet will enjoy the special attention you give to them. Share you

Swimsuit | Swimsuit, Swimming Suit, Or Bathing Suit?
There are some days my brain takes a left turn when it was given specific orders to turn right. I don’t know why these brief departures from reality happen, but they do. When this happens I am reminded that my brain has a mind of its own! And when my brain returns from the left turn departure, I am often times left feeling like I was transported to some place in another space. Recently, I had an experience that felt something like the right side of my brain was in an argument

Bee | Queen Bee Or Worker Bee?
This blog post was originally published on May 04, 2019. Heavy is the head that wears the crown is a phrase that expresses the stressful life a person (originally kings and queens) in a leadership role lives. The immense responsibilities inherent to being a leader, such as making tough decisions, influencing others, and living a life above reproach, can all lead to some sleepless nights. In past years, I have enjoyed success as a “Queen Bee”. The success did not happen withou

Who | Who Should Hold The Door?
This blog post was originally published on April 27, 2019 I recently asked a young male and female the question, who should hold the door? To my surprise they both answered “whoever gets to the door first”. I did not say a word to respond. Their response made me think a long time about how every single crevice of our society has changed. The young female did not feel entitled to have the door held for her, and the young male did not feel compelled to hold the door. Interestin

Choose | You Get To Choose!
In my Life Science class, we are discussing genes and heredity. A gene is a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristics of the offspring. Genes are made up of DNA and are found on chromosomes, and chromosomes are found inside cells. Cells are the very small units that make up all living things and our body is made of billions of them. This is some heavy stuff! While an individual’s natural hair, eye, and skin

Christmas | Merry Christmas!
Once in a Manger Once in a manger, a long time ago,
Before there was Santa and reindeer and snow, A star shone down on humble beginnings below
Of a baby just born who the world would soon know. Never before had there been such a sight.
Would the Son of a King have to suffer this plight? Aren't there armies to lead? Aren't there battles to fight?
Shouldn't He conquer the world and demand His birthright? No, this frail little infant asleep in the hay
Would change the whole worl

C | C Is For Celebration!
This blog post was originally published on December 08, 2018. The month of December ushers in a multitude of celebrations for most people. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, are some of the most widely celebrated events, but there are also many birthdays, anniversaries and graduations that take place during the month. What I use to enjoy the most about celebrations, were the delicious foods and unexpected gifts. I still enjoy those things, but not as much as I enjoy seeing how

Moon | It Must Be A Full Moon!
This blog post was originally published on December 07, 2019. Since I was a young child, I have heard countless people utter the phrase “It Must Be A Full Moon”, when referring to weird and strange happenings. In Roman mythology, the moon was depicted as a female, as it was thought to possess the characteristic of being able to become pregnant and give birth. Luna is the moon Goddess, who was thought to have given birth to a new moon each month. Luna’s name is the prefix to l

Rich | Rich Or Beautiful?
This blog post was originally published on October 19, 2019. Most of my readers know I teach science to middle school students, and published a blog post some months ago titled Never Say Never. I use to say I would never work with middle school students because of so many negative comments I had heard from various educators. After accepting a position to teach in a middle school, I found some of the comments to be true, and some comments not so true. For an example, yes, it’s
