I don’t believe it’s done intentionally in most cases, but it can be quite annoying when you hear someone constantly forgetting to congratulate others on their gifts and blessings, but remembering to mention everything about themselves. I recommend resisting the urge to bring the spotlight on self, and remember to let the light shine on others, by sincerely complimenting and congratulating.
Statement: My boyfriend bought me a Michael Kors handbag.
Incorrect response: My boyfriend bought me a Gucci handbag.
Correct response: Congratulations, your boyfriend is really taking things to the next level with such an impressive gift.
Statement: My boyfriend and I are taking a weekend trip to the Adirondack Mountains.
Incorrect response: My boyfriend and I are taking a 2 week trip throughout Europe.
Correct response: Wow, the Adirondack Mountains are absolutely beautiful and relaxing. I know you are going to enjoy every minute.
